In high temperature weather, the resin of FRP raw material is stored and used in this way
One of the main raw materials of FRP products such as FRP sheets and FRP profiles is resin, among which unsaturated polyester resin is the most widely used.
Both temperature and sunlight affect the storage time of unsaturated polyester resins. In fact, whether it is unsaturated polyester resin or ordinary resin, the storage temperature is the best at the current regional temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. On this basis, the lower the temperature, the longer the validity period of the unsaturated polyester resin; the higher the temperature, the shorter the validity period.
The resin needs to be sealed and stored in the original container to prevent the volatilization loss of the monomer and the falling of external impurities. And the lid of the packaging barrel for storing resin cannot be made of copper or copper alloy, and it is better to use polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride or other metal lids.
Generally speaking, in the case of high temperature, it is enough to avoid direct sunlight to the packaging barrel. However, the shelf life will still be affected, because in high temperature weather, the gelation time of the resin will be shortened a lot, and if it is a poor quality resin, it will even be cured directly in the packaging barrel.
Therefore, during the high temperature period, if conditions permit, it is best to store in an air-conditioned warehouse with a constant temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. If the manufacturer does not prepare an air-conditioned warehouse, then we must pay attention to shortening the storage time of the resin.
It is important to note that resins mixed with styrene must be treated as flammable hydrocarbons to prevent fires. The warehouses and workshops that store this kind of resin must have very strict management, and do a good job in fire prevention and combustion at any time.
Safety matters that must be paid attention to during the processing of unsaturated polyester resin in the workshop
1. Resin, curing agent, and accelerator are all flammable, and fire prevention must be taken care of. Some accelerators and resins must be stored separately, otherwise it is very easy to cause an explosion.
2. There must be no smoking and no open flames in the production workshop.
3. The production workshop must maintain adequate ventilation. There are two forms of workshop ventilation, one is to maintain indoor air circulation in order to remove styrene volatiles at any time. Because styrene vapor is denser than air, the concentration of styrene near the ground is also relatively high, so it is best to set the air outlet in the workshop close to the ground. The other is to use tools and equipment to locally exhaust the operating area. For example, set up a separate exhaust fan to suck away the high-concentration styrene vapor discharged from the operating area, or exhaust the flue gas through the general suction pipe set up in the workshop.
4. In order to deal with sudden accidents, the production workshop must have at least two exits.
5. The resin and various accelerators stored in the production workshop should not be too much, and it is best to store a small amount.
6. Resins that have not been used but have been added with an accelerator should be transferred to a safe location for scattered storage to prevent the accumulation of a large amount of heat in the accumulation and cause an explosion and fire.
7. Once the unsaturated polyester resin leaks, it will cause a fire, and poisonous gas will be emitted during the process, which will endanger human health, so emergency measures must be taken to deal with it.
