Application of FRP in Anticorrosion Facilities

Mar 03, 2023

FRP is widely and widely used in the field of corrosion resistance. It has a history of more than 30 years in industrially developed countries. Domestic corrosion-resistant FRP has developed greatly since the early 1950s, especially in the past 20 years. The introduction of manufacturing equipment and technology of corrosion-resistant FRP raw materials and products, and the types and applications of corrosion-resistant FRP products are becoming more and more extensive in various fields of the national economy.

1. FRP is widely used in the field of environmental protection
With the development of industry, the problem of environmental pollution has become one of the issues of concern in the world today. Many countries have invested huge manpower and material resources in environmental protection industry, a new industrial sector.
FRP has been widely used in water supply and drainage pipeline engineering. According to the information provided by the four largest FRP manufacturers, as early as 1984, they had made 2600km of water supply and drainage pipes with FRP and put them into use.
In recent years, more and more types and corrosion intensity of wastewater and corrosive media are constantly increasing, which requires the use of materials with better corrosion resistance, and corrosion-resistant FRP is the best material to meet this demand. For this reason, Germany issued the first official standard in 1983, which stipulated that the nominal diameter of glass steel pipes was 400-1400mm.
The application of composite materials in environmental protection includes general industrial waste gas treatment, oil water treatment, toxic sewage treatment, garbage incineration treatment and urban wastewater deodorization treatment, etc.

2. Application of FRP storage tanks in high-purity water and food fields
This is a new field of FRP application. The excellent corrosion resistance of FRP means that this material is lively and non-polluting, so it can naturally become a highly clean item, such as the optional material for storing high-purity water, medicine, wine, milk and the like.
Over the past 10 years, there has been great development in this field in foreign countries. The United States and Japan have professional factories for this kind of products, and they have accumulated rich experience in using them. It is reported that the country has also started to formulate work in this area.
The experience of practical application shows that the following links should be paid attention to: A. Resin selection has strict requirements; B. Process has a set of systems; C. Design and installation has certain requirements.

3. Application of FRP storage tanks and towers in the chlor-alkali industry
The chlor-alkali industry is one of the earliest application fields of FRP as a corrosion-resistant material. At present, FRP has become the main material of the chlor-alkali industry.
As early as the early 1950s, FRP was first used to collect heat (93°C), wet chlorine, and organic matter from ink electrodes. This application replaced the phenolic asbestos plastics of the time. Later, FRP was used to replace the concrete electrolytic tank cover, which solved the problem of corroded concrete debris falling into the electrolytic tank.
Since then, FRP has been gradually used in various piping systems, gas blower mobility, heat exchanger shells, brine tanks, pumps, pools, floors, wall panels, grilles, handles, railings and other structural components. At the same time, FRP has also begun to enter various fields of the chemical industry.

4. Application of FRP storage tanks, towers and pipelines in the paper industry
The paper industry uses wood as raw material. The papermaking process requires acids, salts, bleaching agents, etc., which have a strong corrosion effect on metals. Only glass fiber reinforced plastics can resist the harsh environment of bacteria. FRP has been used in pulp production in some countries. exhibits its excellent corrosion resistance.

5. Application of FRP in metal surface treatment industry
The acid used in metal surface treatment plants is mostly hydrochloric acid, basically there is no problem with FRP.

6. Seawater desalination of FRP pipeline
Seawater desalination is divided into traditional distillation method and reverse osmosis membrane method. Because seawater is very easy to corrode iron materials, most of the pipes and containers in the desalination plant are made of FRP products.

7. Application of FRP insulation pipe in hot spring
Hot springs are used for power generation and bathing. FRP pipes have been widely used in the extraction and transportation of hot springs. The most suitable material is Novolac vinyl ester, which can resist the erosion of sulfides at high temperatures.

8. Application of FRP storage tanks and pipelines in the pharmaceutical industry
There are many kinds of medicines, each raw material is different, and there are many corrosions, so FRP is also favored in the pharmaceutical industry.
