An Indispensable Role in The Construction Of 5G - FRP Composite Materials

Apr 19, 2023

What are the opportunities for composite materials in the 5G era? New technologies require new hardware facilities to support them. The role of composite materials in 5G construction:
1. Base station shell
Traditional base stations are all heavy and large iron towers. Of course, with the change of people's concept, many strange long trees have appeared recently. These strange big trees are basically base station shells made of fiberglass composite materials. The characteristics of 5G base stations are: miniaturization, aesthetics, and diversification. Compared with the traditional tall iron tower base station, the shell of this small base station is similar to an electrical cabinet, and it is placed outdoors, facing weather resistance requirements such as wind, rain, sunlight and low temperature. These requirements can be made through SMC, BMC molding, and even LFT injection molding. The key is which material and process can be realized at low cost and quickly while meeting the requirements.
2. Radome
MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output), which means multiple input and multiple output. It means that multiple antennas can be installed in a base station, and these antennas are small and need radome protection. The radome has excellent electromagnetic wave penetration characteristics, and can resist the external harsh environment in terms of mechanical properties. Outdoor antennas usually work in the open air, and are directly attacked by storms, ice, snow, dust, and solar radiation in nature, which can lead to reduced antenna accuracy, shortened lifespan, and poor performance. The antenna cover made of glass fiber reinforced plastic can play the role of insulation, anti-corrosion, lightning protection, anti-interference, durability, etc., and the wave-transmitting effect is very good.
3. Bracket system
The bracket is a fixing device for supporting and supporting cables or bridges when laying wires and cables.
4. Communication Tower
Most of the tall communication towers are steel structures, but corrosion is a big problem, and composite materials can solve this problem. Moreover, the fiberglass material is relatively light, and the independent parts of the tower structure can be quickly assembled by using the fastener-free connection technology. No metal bolts are required during the assembly process, which is easy to install and reduces the weight of the entire tower.
